Theresa C. Sweeney Farrell, 84, of West Scranton, died Wednesday evening at the Gardens at Green Ridge, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 26 years, Thomas Farrell, on June 7, 1997.

Born Oct. 4, 1933, and proudly raised in the Minooka section, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Catherine Coyne Sweeney, Theresa was a graduate of Minooka High School, class of 1951. After working at Capitol Records Club, she spent the majority of her career in the accounting office for Emery Air Freight, from where she would retire. Upon retirement, she worked at the former JCPenney Call Center in Moosic.

A longtime member of St. Patrick's Parish in West Scranton, she was a daily Mass attendee as well as a devout follower of St. Ann. She was also a member of the Catholic Women's Club.

Theresa was amazingly active and always on the go. From traveling across the country to trips to Europe to visit France, Germany and Switzerland along the way, she never stopped. Teamed-up with her friends, Nellie and Ann, the threesome could always be found either traveling or out at a restaurant. She was still active in both the Emery Air Freight and the JC Penney's retirement clubs, often catching up with her co-workers for dinner. She was a loving mother, gran, great-gran, sister, aunt and friend whose memory will live forever.

She is survived by her loving children, Marianne Collins, Scranton; and Joseph Collins, Philadelphia; adoring grandson, Corey Collins, Evansville, Ind.; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Rylee Collins; brothers, James Sweeney; and John Sweeney and wife, Sally, all of Scranton; and Paul Sweeney and wife, Liying, of Norwood, N.J.; her sister-in-law, Helen Lynott, Scranton; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by siblings, Thomas and William Sweeney, Nan Henry, Jane Ricciardella and Ellen Genardi; a stepmother, Stella Sweeney; and sister-in-law, Joan Noto.

Her family wishes to thank Darlene at Serenity Salon and Roz at Holiday Hair; Dr. Steven Sluck; and the staff of the Gardens for the collective care given and love shown to Theresa throughout the years.

The funeral will be Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Patrick's Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. John Ruth. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
