Ronald Weston Thomason & Barbara Evelyn Padgett Thomason

For whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. Ruth 1:16-17

Ronald Weston Thomason, 84, entered the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, July 19, 2018, in Rincon, GA. Ronnie gallantly fought the battle of leukemia for 8 years with amazing strength and courage.

Ronnie was the eldest son of Weston and Grace King Thomason and was born May 5, 1934, in Pensacola, FL. His family moved to Panama City when he was just a few months old and he was a lifelong resident of Panama City, except for the years that he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. Ronnie attended Panama Grammar School, was a 1952 graduate of Bay County High School and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. After his military retirement, Ronnie was in business for himself for several years as the owner/operator of Tom-Ron Carpet Cleaning.

Hiw wife, Barbara Evelyn Padgett Thomason, following a lengthy illness, joined her husband in Heaven 5 days later on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 in Rincon, Ga. She was the eldest child of Elijah Anderson and Eva Evans Padgett, and was born May 31, 1937, in Marianna, FL. Her family moved to Panama City while she was a young child and she attended St. Andrews Elementary School and Bay County High School. After her sophomore year, on June 12, 1954, she married her sweetheart, Ronnie, who was about to be transferred to Japan for 18 months.

Ronnie was predeceased by his parents, Weston and Grace King Thomason, while Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Elijah Anderson and Eva Evans Padgett, and they were predeceased by their daughter, Eva Marie Gamble, a grandson, D'Alton Daniel Sowell, and their son-in-law, Michael Lyons. Ronnie was also predeceased by his brothers,, Darrell Wallace Thomason and James Earl Thomason, while Barbara was also predeceased by her brother, Ronald David Padgett, Left to cherish their memory are their son, Ronald Weston Thomason II (Lisa), and daughters, Cindy Lyons, Barbara Joyce Kiefer (Guy), Vickie Kesler (John), Amy Thomason, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granchildren, Ronnie's sisters, Jo Thomason Manis and Edna Thomason Capri (Art), an uncle, Billy Bassett King, Barbara's sisters, Joan Padgett Mitchell (Dave), and Linda Padgett Kinast, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ronnie was what old timers would call "the salt of the earth". He was hard working and dedicated to his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his life. He loved the outdoors...hunting and fishing...and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He always found time to plant a garden and loved to work in his yard. He never met a stranger , loved to reminisce about "the good old days" and loved genealogy.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was gentle in spirit and loved the Lord. She loved crafts and was a natural artist. During Ronnie's military career, she followed him to bases around the world, taking good care of her family. She and Ronnie recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary...their love truly withstood the test of time.

Funeral services with full military honors will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 11 a.m., at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. John Hopkins officiating. Private family viewing will be held one hour before the service. Graveside services will be held at Hatcher Cemetery, Portland, FL, that afternoon. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ronnie Houston, Randall Houston, Stuart Gamble, Robert Kesler, Chris Thomason and Dustin Baxley. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Smith and Nathan Hathaway.
