January 28, 1933 - July 22, 2018

Early Sunday morning, July 22, 2018, Donald E. Metz, 85, of Anacortes left this world peacefully from his wonderful home on Campbell Lake. His and his wife, Ann's wishes were to stay at home as long as they could in their last years.

The Metz family is happy to say that we helped them accomplish this wish. Don was born in Mannington, West Virginia, on January 28, 1933, the son of James and Maria (Gump) Metz. He had six sisters and two brothers. Don left WV after high school to join the U.S. Navy.

His Navy life stationed him in Japan, Hawaii and eventually at Whidbey Navy Base, which brought him in close proximity to meet the love of his life, Ann Coffelt in Anacortes, Washington. They married in Coeur D'Alene-Idaho on February 9th, 1957 and moved to Seattle to begin their married life. Don was honorably discharged from the Navy on the expiration of his term of enlistment February 15, 1957 duly trained in structural aviation mechanics.

Don was employed by Boeing when they had their first son, James Metz in Seattle. Shortly after James' birth, the Metz family moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Ann became homesick for her hometown of Anacortes and where her parents, Milo and Helen Coffelt, lived, causing for their return. During their time in Anacortes, Ann and Don had two more sons: Mickey and Curtis Metz. Don worked at the plywood mill. Later moving to the grocery store business with Safeway, Thrifty Foods and Prairie Market. Then onto Texaco Refinery where he retired from.

In 1968 Don and Ann bought a home and property on Campbell Lake. This is where they raised their three boys through High School. Don and Ann had many friends who also enjoyed to camp and fish with them. They all traveled mostly in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

Don was predeceased by his parents, his sister, brother and his beloved wife, Ann.

He is survived by his three sons and their spouses: James, Mickey (Kim), and Curtis (Tracey) Metz. Grandchildren: (Mickey's family): Grandson, Grand Daughter, Great-Grand Daughter: Tyson and Marri Metz (one on the way), Kahlan Metz and daughter Paisley, Killian Metz; (Curtis's family): Grand Daughter, Grandson and Great-Grandsons: Tasha Brock, Philip Brock with two sons: Christopher and Jeremiah.

Don also leaves his five sisters and one brother with their families back in West Virginia. Many Aunts and Uncles and Cousins. One cousin lives in Spanaway, Washington, Art Metz and his family.

Memorial and Graveside services will be held on Saturday the 4th of August at the Fernhill Cemetery at 10 a.m.

Ann Metz's remains will also be included in the services. She has been faithfully waiting for Don to join her. Then to a reception at the Campbell Lake Estates. Ashes will also be sent to family in West Virginia.
