He enlisted in the United States Army a month after graduating from high school in 2004. He graduated from Army Basic Training with Honors and went to his Advance Individual Training to become a Chemical Specialist as his Military Occupational Specialty. His first duty assignment was to Germany. He and his wife Keyris enjoyed traveling across Europe and took advantage of this opportunity. Afterwards, he returned to the United States and was reassigned to Delta Company where he would later deploy to Iraq in the early part of 2007. Recently, he reenlisted for four more years to continue to serve with the Army. During his time in the military, SPC Tamez's earned the Expert Marksmanship Badge and Deutsch Expert Marksmanship Badge and accumulated numerous awards to include the Global War on Terrorism – Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Posthumously, Eddie was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Combat Action Badge for service while deployed to the Theater of Iraq. He is survived by his wife, Keyris Sanchez Tamez; father, Henry Arreola; mother, Magdalena Dunn; sisters, Magdalena Romero and husband, Alberto; and Manuela Zarate and husband, Leo; brothers, Francisco Dunn and wife, Deyse; and Alejandro Dunn and wife, Christina; beloved ferrets, Luna and Sol; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ranulfo and Manuela Tamez, and uncle, Gisefredo Tamez.
