Darrell Walker, age 77 of Rice Lake WI, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Our House Memory Care in Rice Lake. He was born on May 11, 1939 in Spooner, WI to Eugene and Pearl (Johnson) Walker.
Darrell graduated from Cumberland High School in 1957. He was married on October 5, 1957 to Janet Marie Hom at Stanfold Lutheran Church. Darrell worked at Johnson Truck Bodies in Rice Lake for 45 years, retiring in 2001. He worked in several areas of the plant and was foreman for many years.
Darrell did many things on the side. He built fiberglass horse trailers and surfboards. He had a welding shop and did welding for many friends in and around Rich Lake.
He made ornamental items such as fireplace grates and tools, decorative wall ornaments and plant stands. Darrell made and installed wrought iron steps and railings for man places such as Stanfold Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dobie and Gilligans Night Club in Chetek.
Darrell enjoyed hunting and hiking. He designed and built a beautiful cabin on Oak Lake near Sarona where for many years his family and friends enjoyed good times.
Darrell loved swimming and diving and was a member of the Rice Lake Diving Club. He and Jan traveled to many places in the United States, also Hawaii and Mexico. Darrell enjoyed going to auctions, flea markets, garage sales and eating out. Over the years he collected many things: guns, coins, Fenton glass, glass door knobs and more.
Darrell was a member of the Wesleyan Church and then Red Cedar Community Church for 45 years. He held many positions: head usher, vice chairman of the local Board of Administration, served on the Wisconsin District Board of Administration. He did lay preaching, taught adult Bible studies and worked with the youth group wand taught Sunday School for many years.
Darrell accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1957.
This was always evident in the life he lived. He dearly loved his family and friends. Darrell never had an enemy and always wore a big smile on his face for everyone.
Darrell Walker is survived by his wife of 59 years Jan Walker of Rice Lake, WI a daughter and son-in-law, Terry Sue and John Dobmeier of Barnesville, MN; a daughter-in-law Beth Walker Schooley of Nashville, AR; five grandchildren, Taylor and Paige Dobmeier and Adrea, Austin and Asher Walker; three sisters, Jean Wienzierl of New Richmond, WI, Emma Danielson of Lakeland, MN and Phyllis Thompson of Tomah, WI; two brothers Irving Walker of Cameron, WI and Kenneth Walker of Rice Lake, WI; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a son, Todd Walker; his parents Eugene and Pearl Walker; and a brother, Wayne Walker.
Funeral services will be heldat 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Appleyard s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI, Rev. Todd Ameson officiting, with interment in Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake.
