Son of Abner & Elizabeth Lewis, Pittsylvania County, VA.

Company I, 18th Virginia Infantry, 5th Brigade, 1st Corps, Army of Potomac, C.S.A.

Residence Pittsylvania County, VA; a 22 year-old farmer.
Enlisted on 4/24/1861 in Spring Garden, Pittsylvania County, he traveled 151 miles to Richmond, where on 4/26/1861, he was mustered into Captain James C. Luck's Company "Spring Garden Blues", 18th Virginia Infantry as a 3rd Sergt. (This company subsequently became Company I, 18th Virginia Infantry.)
Resigned 6/10/1861 as 3rd Sergeant due to poor health.
Sent sick to Manassas hospital on 6/28/1861.

Died in C.S.A. General Hospital at Culpeper Court House, VA.

The 18th Infantry Regiment completed its organization in May, 1861. Its members were recruited at Danville and Farmville, and in the counties of Nottoway, Cumberland, Prince Edward, Appomattox, Pittsylvania, and Charlotte.
