Ira Crumley, an old and honored citizen of this county, died at his home in Washington township, on Thursday evening, January 28th, 1892, in the 83rd year or his age. He was born in Virginia, October 7th, 1809, but came to Ohio with his parents when a child only three years of age, since which time he had been a citizen of Harrison county. The earlier years of his life were spent on his fathers’ farm in Shortcreek township. He was married in January, 1840, to Jane Dickerson, a daughter of Barrick Dickerson who served as Sheriff of Harrison county during the years 1822-24. After his marriage he moved to Franklin township, near Deersville, where he lived eight years, and from there he moved to Washington township, and purchased the farm, about two miles north of Freeport, where he lived the remainder of his life.
Mr. and Mrs. Crumley’s family comprise the following children: Mary E., (Mrs. David McFadden,) of Iowa; Sarah, (widow of William Wilson,) of Freeport; Hiram and Clara, at home, and Thomas, who lives on the farm near his father’s residence.
Mr. Crumley was a member of the M.E. Church, he and his wife having been members of the Dickerson Church a few miles south of Cadiz, in the early history of that famous old Church, and throughout life have always been among the most faithful.
The funeral was held from Mr. Crumley’s late residence on Saturday, last, his remains being interred at Freeport.
