Terry L. “Sonny” Watkins, 59, of Paxton died at 6:24 p.m. Monday (July 23, 2018) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Sonny was born Sept. 1, 1958, in Gibson City, the son of Gordon L. and Lois A. Burklund Watkins. He married Wendy Hinrichs on March 23, 1991, at American Lutheran Church, Rantoul. She survives.
Along with his wife, Wendy, he is survived by a sister, Tammy Milburn; brother, Radar Watkins; uncle, Donnie Burklund; aunt, Rita Watkins, all of Paxton and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Dick and Mabel Burklund and Harry and Tillie Watkins.
Sonny graduated from Paxton High School in 1976. He was a carpenter for a number of years for Kingren Construction and also with his father, Gordy Watkins. He then worked for Baltimore Air Coil, Paxton, until his retirement.
He enjoyed his time working with the Elliott AMVETS. He looked forward to camping trips and riding his Harley. Sonny was a people person, never knew a stranger and always loved visiting and having a “cold one” with his many friends.
