James Vernon Cawthon, Jr., age 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 1, 2017 at home. He was born at Ft. Eustis to James Cawthon, Sr. and Evelyn Cawthon. He proudly fought for his country during WW II, and survived the Battle of the Bulge. He married Gwendoline Crossman in London on December 22, 1945. Jim worked as an Insurance Agent, was a past Governor at the Warwick Moose Lodge (#1711) and was a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen; his four children, John Cawthon (Jennie), Rick Cawthon (Martha), Roger Cawthon (Kathy), and Mary Priddy (Bobby); 9 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30pm, Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Drive, NN, VA 23606. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Peninsula SPCA. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
