Elsie M. Malloy, 80, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. The end came at her daughter's home where she was surrounded by her family. She was a native and lifelong resident of Tidewater and was the daughter of Carey and Irene Estelle Powers.

She retired from Sentara Hospital as an occupational therapist. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

She was the widow of Patrick John Malloy and is survived by her daughters, Sheryl M. Hall and husband Dr. Ron Hall III of Careyville, Tenn., and Debra M. Davis and husband Kenneth L. Davis, of Norfolk; her brothers, Clarence L. Powers and wife Joan of Hampton and Robert E. Powers and wife Margaret of Norfolk; and nine beloved grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 3636 High St., Portsmouth, VA 23707. The Cremation Society of Virginia is handling arrangements.
