Donald Eugene Hartman, 85, of Mechanicsburg, passed peacefully at home on July 18, 2018.

Donald could hardly wait to get a start on life. He was born on June 13, 1933, in the back of car on the way to the hospital.

He was the son of Preston Hartman and Dorothy (Bartch) Fertenbaugh. He attended Mechanicsburg High School and served his country as a Seaman in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Donald was a retired electrician from IBEW Local 143.

Donald loved life and was always learning and dreaming. He loved being a dad and husband more than anything else. He was an electrician, musician, artist, magician and inventor. He loved tinkering in his shop, working on projects with his son-in-law and spending time with his friends at breakfast each week.

Donald was preceded in death by his son, Donald Sherwood Hartman, his brother Joseph Thomas Hartman and his sister Patricia May Shaffer.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carolyn (Kautz) Hartman, daughter Jodie (Hartman) Ruediger and son-in-law James Ruediger of La Vergne, TN, sister-in-laws Nancy Hartman of Harrisburg and Alice Amos of Camp Hill, 5 nieces and a nephew.

A memorial service and celebration of Donald's life will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Nittany Drive in Mechanicsburg on Thursday, July 26 at 7 p.m. A lifelong country music fan, Donald was a cowboy at heart. The family encourages guests to wear their favorite western attire.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the team at Celtic Hospice and Home Health and the staff at the Central Pennsylvania Cremation Society for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in Donald's memory to The Salvation Army Harrisburg Capital Region; TSA Harrisburg, PO Box 61798, Harrisburg, PA 17106. www.pennlive.com/obits
