Gladys Maude Crouch was born on 6 November 1897 in Adel, Iowa, the youngest child of Aaron Baird Crouch Jr. (1855-1948) and Amanda Eliza Higgins Crouch (1858-1944). Her family moved from Iowa to South Dakota before 1910, which was where she was raised. She was married to Melvin James "M.J." Montgomery (1899-1992) on 3 September 1918 in Mitchell, SD. They had two sons and a daughter. They lived in Mitchell, Aberdeen, and later in Huron, SD. She died on 4 April 1989 in Huron, SD at the age of 91. She was interred at Riverside Cemetery.
