James Burrage was in Company D, 10th Regiment North Carolina State Troops, also known as the 1st Regiment North Carolina Artilley. Both according to North Carolina Troops 1861-1865, Volume 1 Artillery on page 78, and the information was complied by: Louise H. Manarin. Before the War Between the States, and in happier times he was married ca. 1847 to Susan Carrick his wife. Both James and his wife Susan are buried in the Bean-Wyatt Cemetery. Although James was a very young man at 45 years old when he died in Richmond, Virginia.
