Charles L. Merchant BACON HILL -
Charles L. Merchant, 84, a resident of Rugg Rd., passed away peacefully at his home Friday, November 3, 2017 surrounded by his family.

Born September 21, 1933 in Ballston Spa, NY he was the son of the late C. Lester and Helen Emerson Merchant.

Charles met his late wife Sheila Deyoe Merchant at her father’s dairy farm where he stopped for coffee. Together they raised their 7 children and ran the Merchant Lea Dairy Farm.

Charlie retired from farming and then worked at Petteys Sawmill, where he continued to join them for coffee-break each morning at 9:30. He was a founding member of the Chippewa Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Sunday morning car rides listening to country music. He carried on Sheila’s tradition of making and always having cookies in the house.

In addition to his parents and wife Sheila, he was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Merchant.

Survivors include his children, Marjorie (Raymond) Abbott, Joanne (Bill) Lydon, Larry (Kris) Merchant, Carole Merchant, Jim (Judi) Merchant, Leslie (Robert) Max, and Brian Merchant; grandchildren, Andrew and Adam Abbott, Joseph and Sadie Killian, Charles and Lindsey Merchant, Jennifer Foote, Chad DeGregory, Ashley Jones, Jonathan and Jason Merchant, Mariah and Caleb Max, Lawton, Sydney and Kya Merchant; great grandchildren, Alexander and Alden Abbott, Dani Rae Fowler, Joseph Gabriel, Alexandria Killian, Gerry Salmonson, Helena and Dahlia Merchant, Ivy Brockway, Jacoby Merchant, Beau James Merchant, and Dexter and Keaton Jones; sisters, Genevieve McLean and Betty Bennett; brother, Donald Merchant; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10am Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in the Bacon Hill Cemetery with Rev. Janet Vincent, officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, NY 12871. Memorials can be made in his memory to the Bacon Hill Reformed Church, 560 Route 32N, Schuylerville, NY 12871 or to Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
