SALISBURY - Nancy Lee Smoot died Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, on her beloved farm, where she resided the last 50 years of her life, surrounded by her family. Born to Catherine Johnson Gum and George Massey Gum, she grew up in Frankford and graduated from the University of Delaware. She taught home economics in Sussex County until she married Dr. Aubrey C. Smoot, Jr. in 1955. She served as president of the Wicomico County Medical Auxiliary. She returned to school at Salisbury University to achieve a Masters of Education with a concentration in Psychology. She is survived by Catherine Norreys Smoot-Haselnus, Virginia Helen Smoot, Aubrey Cannon Smoo,t III, Georgea Lee Moore and George Massey Smoot; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey C. Smoot, Jr. The family will be celebrating her life with a graveside service. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
