Rodney Dee Rigby, passed away at his home peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on September 26, 2017 in Tucson AZ. Rod had been diagnosed with stage 4 Bladder Cancer in July.
Rod was born on May 22, 1955 in Pocatello, ID to Rex and Geri Rigby. Rod had an older half brother Randy and a younger sister Sheila. Rod attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Highland High in 1974. He was hired on at Mountain Bell phone company and retired with 32 years as a manager. It is there he met & married his wife Kathleen Malzahn. Kathy had a daughter, Tracy from previous marriage which Rod raise as his own. The following year Kathy and Rod had their son Daniel which completed there family. They were dedicated to there family and were actively involved as Scouting, Dance Recital, Band Concerts not to mention all the camping and family trips.
In 1982 Rod and his family had a chance to move to Tucson, AZ with the phone company. Site unseen, off they went to Tucson, Rod said, anything has got to be better than this cold weather, he was an outside technician at the time. Rod and Kathy fell in love with Tucson. They enjoyed having guest from out of town so they could to show them all the treasures of Tucson.
In 2006 Kathy and Rod were in a tragic automobile accident on the way to a Company meeting where Kathy was killed and Rod was badly injured. Rod and Kathy had been married for 30 years and they had worked closely together throughout their careers. Rod retired later that year with 32 years of service.
After retirement Rod, golfed, bowled and traveled. He even joined a pottery class where he honed his artistic skills and became quite accomplished. He met a group of women through pottery he called his Pottery Babes. There he met Marsha, they became fast friends and later sweethearts. They enjoyed being with each other whether it was at their cabin at Pine Top, Pottery shows or just being together and having some good conversations.
Rod never new a stranger, always had a joke to tell, worked hard and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Rod is survived by his girlfriend Marsha Kinkade; son, Daniel Rigby his wife Jennifer and their four sons, Andrew, Miles, Blake and Max; his stepdaughter, Tracy Mace and her daughter, Sierra; his sister, Sheila Thompson and her husband, Carl and their son, Zachary.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, section 52 East in Pocatello. Please share memories, photographs and condolences at www.downardfuneralhome.com
