Dean was born October 14, 1907 in Anderson, Indiana the son of William and Nelle (Langsdale) Ambrose He was married to Vera Eiklor in June of 1929 in Anderson, Indiana. Following her death in April of 1942 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Keith on April 25, 1943 in Charleston. Evelyn passed away April 7, 1993 and Dean moved to Sun City where he met and married Frances Williams in July of 1994.
He is survived by his wife Frances; three sons, Robert Dean Ambrose and his wife Barbara of Greenville, Illinois, William Keith Ambrose and his wife Susan of Charleston and Gerald A. Ambrose and his wife Colleen of Winnetka, Illinois; five grandchildren, Jamie Ambrose and Jennifer Gotschall and her husband Charles, all of Las Vegas, Nevada, Christian Ambrose and Michael Ambrose, both of Winnetka, Margaret "Meggie" Ambrose of Charleston; two great grandsons, Adam Gotschall and Austen Gotschall, both of Las Vegas; one niece, Linda Loose and her husband Bob of Anderson; and a cousin, Elizabeth Langsdale of Sun City. In addition to Vera and Evelyn, Dean was preceded by a brother, Ralph Ambrose.
Dean was a United States Navy Veteran having served during World War II. He was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Charleston and was a founding member of Charleston Kiwanis, a club which honored him with a fifty-year Perfect Attendance award. Dean also was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Charleston Elks B.P.O.E. 623, the Charleston Country Club and the Illinois and American Optometric Associations.
His passion in life was his profession Dr. Dean Ambrose was an optometrist in Charleston for forty years. He was truly-dedicated to his chosen career and to his patients. Time away from the office was usually spent golfing and traveling the world. Following his retirement. Dean enjoyed spending time with this grandchildren and great grandchildren who were so near and dear to his heart.
Dean's family requests that Memorials in his honor be made to a Church or Charity of the Donor's Preference Gifts may be left on the Memorial Table at the Visitation or Services or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
