R. John Maloney, 72, of Gloversville died Wednesday at home after a long illness.
He was born on Dec. 26, 1924 in Gloversville, the son of Raymond Stephen and Gertrude L Schrum Maloney. Mr. Maloney was a 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He lived in Guilderland for 15 years before returning to Gloversville in 1983.
He served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was employed for 13 years as a partner in Maloney and Chetwynd Plumbing and Heating, Gloversville. He worked for 25 years at the New York State Department of Labor, Bureau of Public Works as central office supervisor and upstate supervising investigator.
Mr. Maloney was a member of North Main Street United Methodist Church and Fulton County Historical Society, both of Gloversville. He was a 45-year member of Gloversville Masonic Lodge 429 and vice president of the former New York State Parents of Hearing Impaired Children. At the time of his death he was president of the board of directors of Fern Dale Cemetery Association, Johnstown, and a member of the board of trustees of the Fulton County Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife, the former Ruth M. Van Dellon, whom he married on Feb. 19, 1949; one son, Timothy Maloney of Rochester; one daughter, Susan Doak, Gloversville; three grandchildren and several cousins.
