Elizabeth Keene was born May 16, 1669. The exact date of her death is unknown, but probably prior to 1707, as she is not mentioned in her mother Elizabeth Rogers Keene Bank's will dated May 23, 1720, (Northumberland County, Register Book 1718-26, p 170) but her husband and children are, and received bequests. Her husband Samuel Samford remarried in 1707.

Elizabeth Keene (Samford) was the daughter of William Keene and Elizabeth Rodgers Keene Banks. William Keene was born on Kent Island, Maryland on March 10, 1642, and died in 1684 in St. Stephens Parrish, Northumberland County, Virginia. (The will of William Keene is missing from the records, however, a probate of his will was granted to his wife Elizabeth Rodgers Keene Banks on May 20, 1685.) Elizabeth Rodgers Keene Banks was also from St. Stephens Parrish Northumberland County, Virginia....she died in 1720. After the death of her first husband William Keene, Elizabeth remarried, her second husband was Thomas Banks, who also predeceased her. There were no children by her second husband Thomas Banks. Elizabeth Rodgers Keene Banks' will was dated May 23, 1720, and probated July 20, 1720. Her daughter Elizabeth Keene Samford died before 1707, without a will. Elizabeth's husband Samuel Samford remarried in 1707. He second wife was Isabella Langhee.

There are two sources for the names of their children, the will of Elizabeth's mother Elizabeth Rodgers Keene Banks dated May 23, 1720 and the will of husband Samuel Samford (Rich., WB 5, p.292), dated 13 Dec 1735. He died in 1736,age 65, sixteen years after his mother-in-law died.

3.... William Samford (son of Elizabeth and Samuel) married his step-sister Elizabeth Longhee c. 1713. Elizabeth was the daughter of his father Samuel's second wife, Isabella Longhee.

Son Giles Samford mentioned in his grandmother's will (1720) has passed away before his father Samuels' will was written on 13 Dec. 1735.
Son William is not included in the grandmother's will, but is included in his father's will. William is also referenced in the will (Dec. 26, 1738) of his aunt Hannah Keene Bushrod Allerton Cooper (sister of Elizabeth Keene Samford) as "William Samford", son of my sister.


(Elizabeth Rodgers Keene Banks)'s will was written on May 23, 1720. She does not mention her daughter Elizabeth Samford in that will, but includes her grandchildren and son in law Samuel Samford.(North. R.B. 1718-26, p. 127).



In the following passage from her mother Elizabeth Rodgers Keene Banks' will, Elizabeth Keene Samford's husband and children are referenced, but Elizabeth (Samford) herself is not, having died circa 1707 or earlier.

"Item..... it is my will and I do hereby Order and appoint that what is by me in this my will bequeathed to my Son in Law Saml Samford and his children my Grand Children shall be in full of any part and parcel of my Estate which by any means near they may claim or Demand except what I formerly gave them"
"Item..... I give unto my Grand son Giles Samson and to his heirs for ever one negro woman named Rachel to be delivered unto him by my Executors when ye sd Giles shall attain the Age of twenty and one years"
"Item.... I give unto Saml Samford Senr. and to each of his three eldest Sons one Shilling Sterling a piece"
"Item.... I give and bequeath to my Grand sons John Samford and Saml Samford one piece of Gorlick Holland to each of them"
"Item.... I give and bequeath unto my grandaughter Elizabeth Samford one negro girl named Dido to her my Said Grandaughter and her heirs for ever which Negro I appoint to be delivered unto her the said Elizabeth att the age of Eighteen Years or Day of marriage which shall first happen"
