Lloyd Dean Myers, lifetime Checotah resident, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the age of 89. He was born on Tuesday, April 9, 1929 on his family’s farm west of Checotah on Lotawata Rd to Elmer and Ruthey (Horton) Myers. Lloyd attended elementary school in Stidham and Fame schools. He started his 9th grade year at Checotah Public Schools, graduating in 1948. Lloyd joined the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge. On Saturday, April 8, 1950 he married the love of his life, LaVada Norwood in Van Buren, Arkansas. After they married, Lloyd began working construction, later going to work for the State Highway Dept in the engineering department where he was responsible for building major roads and highways. He retired in the late 1980's. After he retired he worked for an engineering firm in Muskogee for 5 years before he began driving a bus for Red Carpet, finally retiring at the age of 75. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Checotah where he served as a deacon and on many committees and building projects. Lloyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, but his true love was teaching his grandsons along with their friends how to fish and hunt. He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted dad and a wonderful pop. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl, Marvin and Everett; sisters, Lena Ree Williams, Betty Acord and Margaret Turpin. Lloyd is lovingly survived by his wife of 68 years, LaVada of the home; son, Dr. Mitch Myers and his wife Karen of Checotah; 3 grandchildren; Allyson Myers Twiss and her husband, Bryan of Dallas, TX, Tyler Myers and his wife Aubrielle of Broken Arrow, OK, Zach Myers and his wife Jayme of Oklahoma City, OK. Also surviving is his brother, Charles Myers and his wife, Reba of Jenks, OK; sisters, Ima Jean Stone and her husband A.D. Of Council Hill, OK, Kathleen Wells and her husband Paul of Checotah, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews other extended family and a lifetime of friends. As you honor the life of Lloyd, in lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made in his memory to the Family Life Center building fund of First Baptist Church 210 SW 2nd street Checotah, OK 74426.
