∼Orline was the daughter of Newton and Maria (Pope) St John and was born in Mobile, Alabama on 8 Jan 1846.
She was raised and attended school in Mobile and had seven brothers and sisters. On 12 Jun 1866 in Mobile she married Lawrence Dade Alexander. The couple had six children, two of which died at an early age. About 1870 the family moved to New York City where her husband was a stock broker and involved in banking. Several of their children also entered the banking field and their youngest son, Lawrence Dade Alexander, Jr., was a practicing surgeon in New York City.
Orline was the author of "The St. John Genealogy; Descendants of Matthias St. John of Dorchester, Massachusetts, 1634, of Windsor, Connecticut, 1640, of Wethersfield, Connecticut, 1643-1645, and Norwalk, Connecticut, 1650." It was published by The Grafton Press, genealogical publishers of New York in 1907. The book was dedicated to "The memory of my Father Newton St. John of Mobile, Alabama." There are a total of 624 pages. Included among the fifteen photographs of various members of the St. John clan is a photo of her father Newton (on the frontispiece) and of her younger brother William Pope St. John.
