Betty Jane Maddox, 88, of Springfield, passed away Friday, September 18, 2015, at St. John’s Hospice. She was born December 30, 1926 in Springfield, to the late Kenneth Edward and Juanita Elizabeth Meyer Abbott.

Betty was preceded in death by her infant son, Craig Henry Maddox, and sister, Jean Savini. She married Robert Henry Maddox on April 12, 1947.

Betty enjoyed gardening…she grew beautiful plants. Betty was an accomplished seamstress, making custom drapes, upholstered furniture, and her own clothes. Mrs. Maddox raised German Shepherds and belonged to the Capitol Canine Training Club for years. She was a bookkeeper for their family business, Five Star Mobile Home Supply.

Betty will be greatly missed by her husband of 69 years, Robert, of Springfield; sons, Bruce Maddox, of Rochester, David (Robin) Maddox, of Chatham; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren (with another expected soon); close family including Kathy Maddox (significant other Terry Bernotas) of Springfield and Gerri (Phil) Southwick of Rural Springfield; many nieces, nephews and cousins

Her family will greet friends during visitation from 5-7pm, Monday, September 21, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham. Funeral ceremony will be held at 10am, Tuesday, September 22, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham, with Pastor Josh Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
