DAVENPORT - Athy Winters Compton, 95, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.

Athy was born May 12, 1915, in Numa, Iowa, the son of Abraham and Lily (Moore) Compton. He graduated from high school in Dixon, Ill. He married Virginia Collins in 1937; she died in 1967. They had two children, Mike and Sheila. He then married Celeste Carlin in 1968.

He had several occupations throughout his life and retired from John Deere Plow Planter Works after 33 years as an electrician. After retirement, Athy and his wife, Celeste, traveled throughout the United States, spending time in Arkansas, Texas and Arizona. They enjoyed fishing for walleye and trout, and also enjoyed deep sea fishing. They had many wonderful years enjoying their family together.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Celeste; stepdaughter, Cheri Fahrenkrog; grandchildren, Dr. Joe Compton, Lyn Stoltenow, Paul and John Rostad; step grandchildren, Tim and Randy Fahrenkrog, Jamie Slyter, Lori Coleman and Tara Claypool; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Rissler; nieces, Karen Rissler and Forrest "Sis"; and a nephew, George Kostas.

His parents, son, Mike, daughter, Sheila (Compton) Rostad, grandson, John "Jack" Compton, and a stepdaughter, Nancy Kopf, preceded him in death.
He will truly be missed by all of us who loved him!
