OBITUARY:
Jacqueline Jean "Jackie" (Jones) Powers, 86, a lifelong resident of Battle Creek, died peacefully at home with her loving family at her side, on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

Jackie was born September 24, 1931, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Russell and Dorothy (Joslyn) Jones. She was a 1949 graduate of Battle Creek Central and in 1951 graduated from Elkhart (Indiana) Business University.

Jackie married Forrest Arthur Powers on May 12, 1951 at United Brethren Evangelical Church, Battle Creek. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years, their infant son Ronald James, a daughter, Teresa Wiley, son-in-law Dennis Wiley, grandson Barrett Wiley, and a brother, Kenneth Jones. Surviving are daughters, Christine (Don) Neale, Dawn Powers, a son, Forrest Arthur "Buzz" Powers, a sister, Kathryn Garrison, six grandchildren, Brad and Chad Vary, Jason Chapoton, Jon and Joshua Powers, and Dennis Wiley, 11 great-grandchildren, and her beloved yorkie Heidi.

Jackie drove a bus for Lakeview Schools, altered gowns for Kenneth Bridal Shop, and co-owned "Crafty Crafters". She was P.T.A. president for Prairieview Elementary, started the Safety Homes Program and served on the Citizens Committee for Lakeview Schools. She was an Honorary Life Member of the Leila Hospital Auxiliary and was Gift Shop manager for Leila and Battle Creek Health System. She was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girl leader. Jackie was a member of Central Christian Church.

Jackie enjoyed reading, crafting, creating homemade cards and working Bingo with her husband. After losing her daughter to cancer, Jackie wrote a book, "Teresa's Life" recounting the story of her daughter's life.

Family will welcome friends from 1:30–3:00 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home, with services officiated by Rev. Gordon Pippin at 3:00 p.m. Committal and Interment will follow at Bedford Cemetery.
