Services for Doyle Desmond Johnson, 97, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Bud Ross will officiate and will be assisted by Meg Corn. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 at an Ada hospital. He was born April 8, 1921 at Byng to James Hamilton and Mae Turner Johnson. He grew up in the small community of Byng where he attended school. He grew up with a love for music and would hitchhike from Byng to Ada for piano lessons. His lessons did not last too long and he played all his music by ear.

He graduated from Byng High School and married the love of his life, Alpha Omega Landrith December 25, 1941 and they lived happily for over seventy years. She preceded him in death August 3, 2012 in Ada.

Shortly after their wedding, he enlisted in the Air Force and was sent to the South Pacific during WWII. After the war ended he returned to Ada and attended East Central University. He taught school for a short time and decided to attend the University of Oklahoma where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for the Department of Transportation as the Division Maintenance Engineer until his retirement in 1977. Upon retirement Doyle played the organ for over 20 years for the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-American Classic basketball tournament. He would play for various foundations around town and became known as the Music Man, playing his keyboard was his passion.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Central Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Johnson and wife Nancy of Ada; daughter, Cindy Abercrombie of Ada; four grandchildren, Chris Johnson and wife Amber of Ada, Lisa Wilson of Denton, TX, Carey Abercrombie of Ormond Beach, FL and Angela Haik and husband Phillip of Austin, TX; nine great-grandchildren, Connor, Ashley, Hayley, Jalen, Jace, Jevin, Keller, Lily, and Kylie Omega; and other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Houston Johnson and Henry Johnson.

Honorary bearers will be Bill Johnson, Bob Tollison, Don and Marge Butler, Alberta Blackburn, Burr Harris, Bud Blackburn and Roger Burns.
