Mrs. Marilyn M. Steele, 70, of Nokomis, IL., formerly of Taylorville, IL., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at 5:28 pm Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

She was born in Taylorville, IL the daughter of James “Punch” and Pauline (Everett) Banfield. Marilyn married John Steele April 8, 1967 in Springfield, IL.

Marilyn was very devoted to the Apostolic Pentecostal Faith. She attended 1st Pentecostal Church in Nokomis, IL. Mrs. Steele graduated from Kincaid High School, class of 1966. She was a loving mother who has worked in various children’s ministries for over 40 years. Everyone called affectionately called her “Granny”. She formerly worked as a Social Services Director at Meadow Manor and Taylorville Care Center. She later worked in Little Rock AR in daycare at Bright Idea’s Pre-School and taught Kindergarten at Capital City Christian School. Marilyn was appointed Coordinator for the campground in Little Rock AR during the recovery effort during Hurricane Katrina. She worked feeding the homeless in Little Rock. Mrs. Steele enjoyed block-parties, cooking, family and especially the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband John Steele of Nokomis, IL., daughters Jamie (Jeff) Kirkendoll of Kincaid, IL and Tracie (Mike) Pounds of Taylorville, IL sons Johnnie Steele of Taylorville, IL Don Steele of Nokomis, IL 9 grandchildren Donald Ray Felton II, Bridgette Steele, Shauntae (Patrick) Reed, Andrea Hanlon, Shaylynne (Archie) Barnard, Tasia Pounds, Justin Pounds, Pierson Steele, Kimimela Steele 6 great grandchildren Ariel, Gabriel, Sophia, Jayce, Kolton & Riggs, along with one sister Delores “Hop” Hay and a great many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Teresa Hanlon, 2 brothers Jim Banfield and Andrew Corpin, 3 sisters Linda O’Dell, Pat Daugherty, and Rita Barrish.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, July 23, 2018 at Masterson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Kincaid, IL. Rev. Pat Hancock and Pastor Lavern Bell will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL. Visitation for Mrs. Steels will be held from 9 to 11 am Monday at Masterson’s in Kincaid, IL.
