James “Jim” Delmer Denny, Sr., 79, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, July 16, 2018.

Jim was born to the late Adophus Grady and Ruby Lillian Greer Denny on Saturday, May 13, 1939.

He grew up in Ashe County, North Carolina.

Jim was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles” Division of the United States Army.

After working in the automotive industry for a brief time, he became an over-the-road truck driver. He worked for several large companies, delivering dangerous chemicals and explosive gases across the nation.

Jim had a passion for gardening and landscaping. He loved hunting and fishing, was an avid reader, and devoted sports fan. Jim also loved vacationing with his family.

He was Southern Baptist by faith and was a former Sunday School teacher who loved sharing his testimony and talking about his faith.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Rosemary Cupeto Denny of Knoxville, Tennessee; his daughter, Melissa Denny of Knoxville, Tennessee; his son and daughter-in-law, James, Jr. and Kristian Denny of Columbia Falls, Montana; granddaughters, Alexis Denny of Elizabethton, Tennessee, and Madison Denny of Harriman, Tennessee; grandson, Benjamin Lewis of Arden, North Carolina; and brother Gary Denny of Piedmont, South Carolina. He is also survived by many dear friends who became his family, including but not limited to: Robert and Karen Lewis of Arden, North Carolina; Sherri Brown of Knoxville, Tennessee; and the Coburns of Knoxville, Tennessee.

The family will receive friends 6-7 pm Thursday at Weaver’s Chapel with the service to follow at 7 pm. Jim will be buried at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Gov. John Sevier Hwy., Knoxville, Tennessee at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018.
