Heaven gained a very precious loving and kind soul on July 5, 2018. Margaret Kathryn “Kate” Phillips Bodkins gained her wings for heaven. She had always been an angel on earth.
She was born Friday, May 15, 1931 at Jimtown, WV a daughter of the late Ray and Lillie Edith Miller Phillips. She was the granddaughter of the late Ward and Margaret Miller and the late George and Vinnie Phillips.Kate attended the Fairhope School and graduated from Coalton High School with the Class of 1949. On September 22, 1961, she was married to Richard Neil “Tubby” Bodkins who preceded her in death on August 14, 1991.
She is survived by four children, son Richard “Rick” Bodkins and wife Beverly, daughter, Juanita “Kay” Johnson and the late Richard Johnson, son, Ronald “Ronnie” Bodkins and wife Wendy, daughter, Janet Mae Shiflett and husband Matthew and brother, Thomas Ray “Tom” Phillips. Also left to cherish her memories are nine grandchildren, Dusti Phillips, Andrew, Brent, Jeremiah, and Jonah Johnson, Abagail, Alexis, and Bryson Bodkins, and Mason Fox; four great grandchildren, Katelyn, Kristin, and Christian Lopez, and Lily Phillips, one great great grandson, Adrian Boggs; nieces, Tammy and husband Jim Leggett and their children, Tanner, Chantelle, and Laikelyn; Susan and husband Jamie Shiflett and son Russell; sister in law, Carolyn Bodkins; nephew Randy Bodkins; niece Winnie and husband David Lambert and family; and nephew, Woodie “Bud” Sites.
Preceding her in death are a brother in law, Isaac Bodkins, and sister in law, Myrtle Carr.
She was an active member of Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church at Jimtown where she served on many committees, was employed at the Norton Coal & Coke Company from 1950 to 1956, and the G. C. Murphy Company from 1956 to 1962. She had a heart of love for animals. Her precious Mr. Meow and two of her grand fur babies, Buster and Baby Bear were by her side when she died. A special thanks to the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center Rehabilitation Team and W. V. Caring Hospice for their excellent care.
When I think of my mother, I think of Love. A quote from Mother Teresa. “To show great love for God and our neighbor we need not do great things. It is how much love we put in the doing that makes our offering something beautiful to God.” We were so blessed in having her. Praise God.
