Marion's Obituary

Marion M. Bowers, age 90, of Marion passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 at Kindred Hearts of Clintonville.

The former Marion Mae Poole was born on August 16, 1927 in Shiocton to Joel and Hazel (Hanson) Poole. She grew up in the Shiocton area and graduated from Shiocton High School. Marion was united in marriage on May 28, 1947 to Donald C. Bowers at St. John Lutheran Church, Marion. She was employed for many years as a supervisor at Hansen Glove Factory, Clintonville. Marion also tended bar at Caroline Ballroom for a number of years. The couple dairy farmed in the Town of Grant, Shawano County, where she worked side-by-side with her husband. Don and Marion loved horses, enjoyed pulling their wagon in parades in Caroline, and liked giving folks wagon rides during Colorama. Her husband preceded her in death on January 13, 2004.

Marion was always a proud supporter of the Caroline Lions Club and often donated quilts and pillows that she made. She sewed numerous items for the church and the historical society as well. Marion created beautiful porcelain dolls from scratch and liked to play cards with her friends, especially bridge. She was a longtime active member at St. John Lutheran Church, Marion, helping with countless projects and was a former President of the Ladies Aide. She also volunteered wherever possible with the Marion Area Historical Society.

Survivors include three sons, Mike (Janna) Bowers of Wauzeka, WI, Bill (Sandy) Bowers of Marion, and Tony (Jeanne) Bowers of Sparta. There are four grandchildren; Josh (Julie), Laurel, Brad, and Crystal. There are four great grandchildren; Kayla, Blake, Kelsee, and Michael. She is further survived by a sister, Janet Holys of California; and many other relatives and friends. Marion is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don; one sister Lorraine Sapkaris; and three brothers Orville, Wesley, and Gordon Poole.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 20th at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, Marion. Rev. Beth Macha will officiate and burial will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the church. Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Marion, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church or Marion Area Historical Society.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Kindred Hearts and the nurses with AseraCare Hospice for the compassionate care given to Mom.
