Hugh was born to Angel (Kenney) and Laverne Williams in Manistee on March 18, 1928.
He married Marlene Callesen on Jan. 31, 1950. Hugh belonged to the First Baptist Church in Manistee. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed distance swimming. He also enjoyed gardening and working on cars. Hugh was a life member of the VFW Post No. 4499 in Manistee. At a young age, Hugh earned his Merchant Mariner Card and sailed on the lower Lakers. He served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. At war's end, Hugh returned to sailing on the Great Lakes.
After his marriage to Marlene, Hugh came ashore and worked as a machine assembler at Michigan Tool (Iron Works) in Manistee for 28 years until it closed. He then worked in the machine shop with Campbell Grinder in Muskegon, and retired from Clairson Industry in Ocala, Fla., as a tool and dye employee. After living in Ocala, Fla., for 32 years, Hugh and Marlene moved back to Manistee to be near family.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; daughter, Karen Williams; parents, Angel and Laverne Williams; brothers, Daniel (Laura) Williams and Edward (Alice) Williams; sisters, Hazel Williams, Lenore (Floyd) Smith, Mary (Dick) Kozminski, and Kathy (Jim) Bottrell.
The funeral service was private. Interment was at Grant Township Cemetery with VFW Post No. 4499 Honor Guard.
