Obituary for Earl Bryan Reed

Earl B. Reed, 91, of Lee's Summit, MO, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018. Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Louisburg Cemetery, Louisburg, KS.

Earl was born March 22, 1927, in Lee's Summit, MO. He became the first Eagle Scout in Lee's Summit before enlisting in the Navy during WWII. Upon returning home, he married his childhood sweetheart, Judy Hellem. They moved to Topeka, KS, and Earl began work at Manor Baking Company. He became a suburban sales manager, which required a move to Dallas, TX. He stayed with Manor for 16years.

While in Topeka and Dallas, Earl was active with both the Masons and Shriners. After leaving Manor, he became his own boss, selling Snap-on Tools. Earl worked as a Field Manager and Sales Manager in Dallas, then moved to Los Angeles, CA when he was promoted to Branch Manager. In 1969, they moved to San Rafael, CA when he became Division Sales Manager, then Division Manager. Earl ended his career as Senior VP of Sales, Marketing, Distribution in Kenosha, WI. He retired at 62, and they moved back to Lee's Summit.

During retirement, Earl stayed busy with the Lee's Summit Wood Worker's Guild. He made toys for underprivileged children and turned the most beautiful bowls anyone has ever seen. Earl also volunteered at the local Scout campground, and received his final Eagle palm, of which he was very proud. After Judy passed away, he met and married Mary Mitchell Quick. They were married for almost 20 years, remaining in Lee's Summit, enjoying family and retirement.

Earl is preceded in death by his sister, Corinne McCuistion, his wife, Judy, his daughter, Kathy,
and his son, Howard.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, his daughter, Nancy Westermeyer (Hugh), grandsons, Reed and Bryan, his step-son, Robert Quick (Valerie), step-daughter, Katie Besco (Dan), and his nephews, Phil McCuistion, (Mary Ann, deceased) and Charles Earl (Sandra).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans.
