Sandra Marie Greene (Russell)
Age 75, of Elk River. Passed away on June 8, 2016.
We lost our wife, mother, and grandmother to a genetic killer called Huntington's Disease (HD). This neurodegenerative disease took her away from us cognitively and physically years ago. Our sassy girl battled HD for over 20 years. We are incredibly grateful that she died peacefully surrounded by her friends at Good Samaritan Home. She was serenaded through her passing by her favorite, Neil Diamond's "Song Sung Blue." She took her last breath as they transitioned into a hymn.
She was welcomed with open arms by her husband, Dan. Serenading her on the banjo was her Father, Stephen Russell, accompanied by her Mother, Helen, her fabulous sisters, Ginny Lulay (Bob Lulay) and Delores Hangaard (Kermit Hangaard), and her protective brothers George (Eleanor), Lewis, and Sonny Peterson.
Sandy is survived by her children Denise (Joe) Arel, Kerrie (Jim) Tubridy, Steven, Kathy (Mike) Guba, and Dan II, numerous grand-children, great-grand children, and family, Delores Peterson, Richard Greene and Sam Brungardt, Jeanne Schwager and Judy Greene.
Sandy graduated from Wimbledon High School in North Dakota in 1958. She was a member of the North Dakota Flickertail Girls State. She married her high school sweetheart, Dan Greene. They moved around for a few years until they settled in Elk River in 1968. They supported the First National Insurance Agency. Dan and Sandy enjoyed new adventures they experienced through traveling by car, plane, and motor home. Sandy was known for her amazing horticultural ability and the love she poured into her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
