Terry L. Payne of Valley Springs, California | 1948 - 2018 | Obituary

Terry Payne went to be with his beloved wife Kathryn Payne on Sunday July 15, 2018. Born in Missouri, Terry and his family moved to Santa Paula when Terry was a young child. Terry graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1967. A proud Vietnam Veteran, Terry served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Bronze Star for his commendable service and leadership amongst his fellow soldiers. Terry was a proud Operating Engineer Union worker, employed at SP Milling in the 80’s and 90’s and then moving to Valley Springs California to work with Teichert Aggregates where he retired.

An avid outdoorsman, Terry was filled with stories from his hunting, fishing and camping adventures. His greatest times and memories were those spent with his family camping and teaching his sons how to fish, hunt and be honorable men. Of the great stories he has told through the years was a badger that was on board on a fishing trip, catching sturgeon on the Delta and getting licked by a bear at Yosemite.

Terry is preceded in death by his wife Kathryn Payne and his mother Eva and father Ivan Payne. He leaves behind his brother Roland Payne of Santa Paula. He will be greatly missed by his sons, daughter and grandchildren. Andy (Deborah) Payne of Santa Paula and their three daughters; Jason (Terri) Alurcon of Valley Springs and their two daughters and one son; Amber (Rob) Bird of Valley Springs and their three sons; Jason (Andrea) Payne of Oxnard and their daughter; Nick (Kelley) Payne of Santa Paula and their two daughters.

The family would like to thank the great medical teams through the years that have enabled his grandchildren to learn and laugh with Grandpa Terry. Terry was loved by his family, neighbors and everyone he met along the way.
