November 16, 1944 - August 24, 2015

Mr. Harold Kenneth Newton age 70 of Briar Cove Rd. Morganton passed away peacefully at his home on Monday August 24, 2015 following an extended illness. Mr. Newton was born on Nov. 16, 1944 in Ellijay, GA., the son of the late Ed Newton and the late Nanny Mae Dempsey Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Fannin and Gilmer counties. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. Mr. Newton was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Newton are two sons and daughters in law, Kenneth and LeAnna Newton, David and Tammy Newton, one daughter, Virginia Gilliam all of Morganton, two sisters and one brother in law, Linda and Johnny Wright of Ellijay, Johnny Newton of Morganton, two sisters and one brother in law, Louise Ballew of Ellijay, Lus and Reba Newton of Dalton, twelve grandchildren, one great grandchild, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday August 28, 2015 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. John Newton officiating. Special music will be presented by Phillip Thomas. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Justin, Chris and Bryan Newton, Michael and Zack Gilliam and David Bell. Interment will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, donations may be made to help defray expenses in Mr. Newton’s memory. The family will meet at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-9 pm.
