She was born on February 22, 1931, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Beatrice Cook. She was a PFC in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On September 5, 1952 she married the love of her life, George J. Oeffling in Yokohama, Japan.
Sarah was a life member of Post 4600 VFW Auxiliary, like member of DAV, and the Women's Overseas Auxiliary, a volunteer at the North Chicago VA hospital for 8 Years, and a member of the American Legion post 703 Fox Lake. Sarah was also a part of the Senior Exchange program through District 15 for over ten years. She worked in the library, where she enjoyed reading to students.
Sarah is survived by her children, David (Pam) Oeffling, Douglas (Linda) Oeffling, Dwayne (Kim) Oeffling, and Pam (Tony) Sroka. She was a loving grandma of 11 grandchildren, and a G.G. to 12 great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband George; her sisters, Rose, Marie and Margaret as well as her brother Robert.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 4pm to 8pm with funeral service beginning at 7pm at Colonial Funeral Home & Crematory, 591 Ridgeview Dr. McHenry IL. Family and friends will meet Thursday, July 19, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Johnsburg for 11am graveside service.
