Some records state that Enos Thatcher was actually born in Pennsylvania. His first wife was Artemisia Case, and his second wife was Charlotte Torrey.

"Enos Thatcher, and wife, A. Case, came from Pennsylvania in wagons, with Jason Wiswall, in 1835, and settled in LaSalle County, served as Constable for several years; a teacher and leader of sacred music. His wife died in 1838 (sic); his son Henry, and daughter Elizabeth, who married Godfrey Lincoln, are both in Oregon.

Mr. Thatcher married a second wife, who with their children, George and Celia, reside in Livingston County. Mr. Thatcher is now with his children in Oregon."

(Note: Enos and Artemisia's daughter was Elizabeth Carpenter Thatcher. She married Job Godfrey Lincoln in LaSalle County on 29 Aug 1839.)

Charlotte Seaman Torrey was born Feb. 21, 1817, and died April 13, 1887, according to the Torrey family history. Another record states she died in September of 1886.

In 1840 and 1850, Enos and family are recorded in LaSalle County, in Deer Park, Illinois.
In 1860, 1870, and 1880, Enos and Charlotte are in Sunbury, in Livingston County, Illinois.

Enos Thatcher was a Republican and a "conductor" in the Underground Railroad in Illinois, according to biographical information written about his son, George. Enos was already in is mid 40's when George was born, and as his parents aged, George helped support them.

From "A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans" by William E. Connelley, c1918, a biography of his son, George W. Thatcher states:
"George's father, Enos Thatcher, was born near old Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts in 1798, represented Pilgrim ancestry, and married in Pennsylvania (sic) Charlotte Torrey. She was born at Bethany, Pennsylvania, in 1816, of Quaker stock. Her father was of French Huguenot ancestry and settled in Pennsylvania at an early day. Enos Thatcher moved from Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, to Illinois in 1832, and was one of the early pioneers of the Illinois River Valley. He and his (2nd) wife had two children, George W. and Celia."
