Andover man killed in two-truck smash

Andrew (Buster) Larson, 53, rural Andover, was killed Thursday evening at 10:30 p.m. in a two-truck accident at the intersection of Highways 37 and 12.

Larson was driving a two-ton truck north on S.D. 37 when it was hit broadside by a semi-truck loaded with wheat, driven by Larry Phipps, 26, Watertown. The semi was east bound on U.S. 12.

Phipps was treated and released at St. Luke's Hospital.

The Highway patrol said the highways were wet at the time.

Services for Andrew Larson Jr., 53, of rural Andover, were held Monday, Sept. 20, at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church in Andover. The Rev. Edwin Rumerfield officiated. Burial was in the Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Ackerson Funeral Home.

Mr. Larson was killed in a two truck accident Thursday evening.

Hymns were sung by the congregation accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Raap, organist.

Honorary pallbearers were Elmer Hein, William Hein, Frank Belden, Rangvald Larsen, Harlowe Feller and George Wagner. Active pallbearers were Carroll Wagner, Ivan Zoellner, Harvey Fliehs, Edwin Sundberg, Howard Hein and Arthur Kroll.

Mr. Larson was born Nov. 28, 1917, at Andover, and resided and farmed there all of his life. He married Bernice Nehls at Groton on July 21, 1940.

Survivors include his widow; one son, Dennis, Groton; one daughter, Mrs. George (Ruth) Kimball Jr., Andover; three grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Christina Larson, Yakima, Wash.; two brothers, Fred, Bremerton, Wash., and Harry, Charleston, Ill.; five sisters, Mrs. Dick Ritz, Altadena, Calif., Martha Larson of Yakima, Wash., Mrs. John Olson, Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Mrs. Laura Fredrickson, Yakima, Wash., and Mrs. Ted Larsen, Seattle, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
