The son of Lysander and Susan (Howard) White, some records list him as Lysander Davis White.
He married Martha A. Ingraham, the daughter of Lewis and Annie (Drake), at Stoughton, MA on May 21, 1851. They were the parents of two known children, Frank E., born in 1866, and Arthur H., born in 1870.
Davis was a member of the Charles W. Carroll G.A.R. Post No. 144 in Dedham. Working as a watchman, he was 64 when he died of paralysis at his Milton St. home in Dedham. A government issued headstone under the name Davis L. White was placed on his grave in 1902 noting he was a member of the 33rd Massachusetts.
