Midge was the son of Harry Holt and Mildred Scouten of Amsterdam, N.Y. His siblings were Harold, Eleanor Frye, and Richard "Dutch". He married Frances Bell Canfield on Aug. 2, 1942. They lived in Broadalbin and had five children, Melvin Jr., Thomas E., Ronald, Lynda Ann, and Frederick P. Midge and Fran lived their retirement years near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He lived his final years at the Broadalbin home of his youngest son Rick and wife Jill. In 2019 the stone was in need of repair so members of the Holt, Canfield, Miller and Fredericks families chipped in $265 to have the base replaced and the stone sealed to the base. Midge was a WW II Veteran and was honored by the Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company.
