Douglas Coffey, age 89, of Morganton, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at his residence.
He was born on March 24, 1929 in Avery County, North Carolina, a son of the late Ira Vance Coffey and the late Gladys Cooke Coffey.
He was US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was the Owner and Operator of the Texaco at Invershiel at Linville Gap, NC. Doug enjoyed life and his family. He was an avid farmer and gardener. He and his wife, Lillian, spent many years teaching dance lessons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lyndon Coffey; grandson, Jonathan Cropper; sister, Wilma Greene; brothers, Hundley and Boyd Coffey.
Douglas leaves behind to cherish his memory his: wife of 65 years, Lillian Hughes Coffey of Morganton, NC; Sons, Morris (Donna) Coffey, Michael (Christy) Coffey; daughter, Sharon (Rick) Moody; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services for Douglas Coffey will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Harper officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Pat Ray Post of the VFW. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home..
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Burke Hospice and Palliative Care 1721 Enon Rd Valdese, NC 28690.
