Melissa Jane Cox, 95, of Virden, formerly of Auburn, died at 6:05 a.m.
Monday at Virden Nursing Center.
She was born Aug. 25, 1897, in Flora, the daughter of Matthew and Vicie Jane Graham Cummings. She married William E. Cox in 1913 in Flora. He died in 1967. Also preceding her in death were a son, Delbert Cecil Cox in 1982; two daughters, Dorothy Iona Spoor in 1977, and an infant daughter, Dolly Cox; a great-grandson; four brothers, Ralph Cummings in 1984, Jonathon Cummings in 1971, Thurman Cummings in 1912 and an infant brother; and four sisters, Millie Austin in 1983, Recie Pearl Cummings in 1910, Flossie Johnson in 1934 and Nellie M. Cummings.
Surviving are a daughter, Dolores Eileen Grossner of Virden; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ivan Cummings of Largo, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Berry Funeral Home, Auburn, the Rev. Aaron Snodgrass officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
