Suggested edit: Suffragan Bishop Aaron Lee Boyd was born on May 31, 1938 in Crofton, Kentucky, the eighth child of the late Claude and Thelma Cecil (Robinson) Boyd. He passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 10 days.
Bishop Boyd attended public school in Crofton, Kentucky. As a young man, he worked at the local service station in Crofton. Bishop Boyd and his siblings were no strangers to "Hard Work". At the age of 15, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.
On November 3, 1958, Bishop Boyd was married to Alma L. Hedgepath and to this union 7 children were born. One died in childbirth.
Suffragan Bishop Boyd was an entrepreneur. He was the owner of many businesses such as Boyd's Scavenger Service, Boyd's Wrecker Service as well as owner of a Shell Service Station on the corner of 34th & Keystone. He owned several rental properties and auto repair shops. His mind for business was truly the wisdom of God. He loved to go hunting, he loved all sports and loved to play baseball.
Suffragan Bishop Boyd was baptized in Jesus' name and received the Holy Ghost at Bethel Tabernacle Apostolic Church where Suffragan Bishop Owen Young was the pastor. There, he served faithfully as an associate minister and was chairman of the Brotherhood. He was known for his lively devotions and praise services; "I See a Crimson Stream of Blood" being one of his favorites. Later he served as the interim pastor in Paulding, Ohio.
Bishop Boyd, had a great love for the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World and the Apostolic Bible Students Association held a special place in his heart. He served on the Advisory Committee for the ABSA under leaderships of the late Bishop Charles Watkins, the late Bishop James E. Tyson and presently Bishop Charles Sims. He served as the Auxiliary Director for the Missionary & Christian Women Auxiliary for many years and currently until his demise he served as the Auxiliary Director for the Ministers Wives & Widows Auxiliary. He was elevated to Suffragan Bishop at the Fall ABSA Council held at Zion Tabernacle on Friday, October 25, 2013.
In 1975, he was installed as the pastor of Greater Mt. Zion Apostolic Church in Logansport, Indiana and pastored for almost 43 years, until his death. Pastor Boyd loved the saints of Greater Mt Zion. He was faithful to his calling as pastor – he was a preacher, teacher and counsellor. His reach did not just extend to the church in Logansport, but to the community in Logansport as well. He was on the Executive Board of Directors for the Cass County Youth Services Bureau, served on the Cass County Planning board and as a Chaplin for the Cass County Jail.
He wore many hats – husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, pastor, preacher, advisor, friend and many more. No matter which hat he wore, he made people feel special in one way or another. You could expect him at family functions with his signature white shirt and black suspenders giving straight talk He loved ALL of his family and consistently stressed the importance of family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Thelma Boyd and his siblings; Hosea Boyd, Charles Boyd Helen Grundy, Julia Johnson, Virgil Boyd, Sr., Melvin Boyd, Cecilia Ingram and Floyd Boyd, Sr.
He leaves to cherish memory his loving wife Alma Louise Hedgepath Boyd of 59 years, 6 children: Aaron Leslie Boyd (Tryphena), Thelma Louise Ledford (Keith), Rebecca Anita Johnson, Cynthia Marie Sawyers (David), Eunice Michelle Boyd and Christopher Dwayne Boyd (MaWanna); six siblings- Herbert Boyd (Patricia), Johnny Boyd (Lynetta), Jane Gatling, Claude Boyd, Rachel Robinson (Michael) and Mary Rhinehart; 31 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation was held on Friday, July 20, 2018, at Greater Mt. Zion Tabernacle.
Visitation and Service were held on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Assembly, in Indianapolis, IN followed by interment at Crown Hill Cemetery & Crematory in Indianapolis.
Arrangements were handled on behalf of the family by Kroeger Funeral Home in Logansport, IN.
