McCOOK, Nebraska — Virginia Ann (Pollman) Bauer of McCook, formerly of Culbertson, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 84 years old.

Virginia was born on a farm near Trenton, Nebraska, to Walter and Velma (Gray) Pollman on May 6, 1934. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1951. After high school, she received normal (teacher) training and taught at a country school.

Virginia was united in marriage to John Bauer Jr. on December 27, 1952, at Trenton. To this union four children were born. They made their home on a farm near Culbertson, where they would spend most of their married life.

Virginia was a farm wife. She would help in the field where she would drive trucks. She would then always make sure there was a full meal prepared for dinner and supper. When her health would no longer let her work outside, she spent her time painting ceramics.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church for many years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women Group. When her children were younger, she volunteered many hours as a 4-H Leader and YF Leader. She loved to go to cattle sales with her husband and travel across the country. She loved having her grandchildren around and went to all their activities that she could. She was a very strong lady that did not let her multiple sclerosis slow her down.

Preceding her in death were her husband, John; parents, Walter and Velma Pollman; daughter-in-law, Sandra Bauer; brothers-in-law, Bob Hidy, Dallas Wagner, Harvey Bauer; and sisters-in-law, Lavila Pollman, Eunice Bauer and Mary Alice Grassmick.

Survivors include her sons, Alan (Culleen) Bauer of Seward, Neb., Terry (Kim) Bauer and Greg (Mindi) Bauer of Culbertson; daughter, Debra (Steve) Walter of McCook; nine grandchildren, Scott (Ali) Bauer, Brett (Annessa) Bauer, Michelle (Mike) Reimers, Jeremy (Crystal) Walter, Spencer Walter, Todd (Alyssa) Bauer, Kayla Bauer and fiancé (Cody), Tanner Bauer and Kori Bauer; eight great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Vonda Hidy and Veleda Wagner; brother, Walter Pollman Jr.; brother-in-law, Bob Grassmick, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Memorials may be given in her name to Culbertson Trinity United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 5, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel. The family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services are Friday, July 6, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at the Culbertson Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery.
