She was born in Monticello, NY on February 2, 1942, the daughter of John Vincent Smith and Gertrude Brucher Smith. Her maternal grandparents were Andrew and Lillian Mattison Brucher. Her paternal grandparents were Sylvester and Theresa Kehl Smith.

Her daughter, Wendy Ward Sellers (Jesse) and her son Shawn Forrest Ward (Kimberly), Grandchildren, Robert McCarroll, Melissa Roberts, Devin Roberts (Emily), David Sellers, Kara Ward, Kristina Sellers, Kevin Ward Sellers and Elizabeth Sellers 3 Great Grandchildren along with many cousins, extended family and dear friends.
