Virginia “Ginny” Wells was born 26 May 26 1923 at Danbury, Fairfield, Connecticut, the only daughter of Henry Hubbard and Caroline (Washburn) Wells . Ginny had five brothers: older brothers Tomlinson, Alfred, Henry, and Crosby and younger brother Frank.

She married Kenneth Schwartz, and the couple had two sons, Phil and Chuck. The family lived in: Essex, Middlesex, Connecticut; New Canaan, Fairfield, Connecticut; and New Bern, Craven, North Carolina. They spent their summers in a cabin on Mount Riga.

Ginny died 22 March 2018, in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the age of 94.

Ginny was raised in Brewster, NY with her five brothers. She attended Bennington College in Vermont where she received her BA. After college she worked as Head of the Speakers Bureau for the American Association of the United Nations. Ginny worked with Eleanor Roosevelt and even had Eleanor over to her mother's house for a visit. She also worked as an assistant to the Director for the New York Stock Exchange.
She married Kenneth Schwartz in 1958 and had two sons. They raised Phil and Chuck in Essex, CT before moving to New Canaan, CT. Ginny and Ken retired to New Bern, NC, where they spent over thirty years and attended Christ Episcopal Church.
She and her family spent their summers in a remote part of the Berkshires in a lakeside cottage which has no electricity.
After Ken passed away, Virginia moved to Charlottesville to be close to her brother, , Frank.
