In Memory of My Noble Father
Darrell Keith Bennett

Noble in spirit, my Dad always upheld the inaliable right of each one to live and to be respected.

He had a gift for seeing behind the obvious. Sometimes when I was perplexed about a situation, he would patiently explain to me with his innate insight what was really happening.

From the beginning of my life, I remember my extra special Daddy, talking to me as if I were an adult. He had a knack for knowing how to explain the complex... like what is a tar baby in Brer Rabbit's world ... or ... why he and my Mama were getting a divorce ... or ... why I had to write my mother every week in high school ... or why solar heating was better than nuclear power plants ...

Dad was able to perceive the need in myself and to delicately and tenderly help me prune the seedling of my soul. At one cycle in my life, I had the habit of making very opinionated statements that would cause Dad to look at me with that penetrating look of his. So, it was time for a lesson. Dad vividly described a large bonfire and sitting in a circle around this bonfire were various people. Each person had a unique perspective of the central fire. No two people saw exactly the same thing. Each one's perspective was due to his or her unique position to the center. No one was any better than anyone else. Each person had is own special gifts and talents and we were to honor that person even if we did not agree with them. Each person deserved to have his own perspective. He told me to remember the old Indian adage: "Don't judge a man until you walk a mile in his mocassins."

For me, Dad has always been one of the most important people in my life. He has been a strong and noble protector, guide, an interested friend and a confidante. There are so many special conversations and wonderful times we shared together.

Once, as a distraught teenager, Dad sat me on his lap and put his arms around me and patiently told me about life. Life he said was like a very long pathway lit by the sunlight that was blazing brilliantly from a magnificent SUN at the end of the trail. Our job in life is to stay on our path. sometimes there are detours that we take and we go off into another room. There are many rooms on both sides of the path. A room could have anything in it, you don't know until you go in. Perhaps one room has a big party and you go in there. You will eventually get tired of that room and find your way back onto your pathway to the Sun. And along comes another room, this one is like a safari where you chase wild game... It is okay to go into the detour rooms, it doesn't make you a bad person if explore them. But really, you will be happier in life if you stay on your path to the Sun. That is where we belong and that is the purpose of life. To follow your inner calling and to walk toward the Sun.

And so on this blessed day, I salute my Father as he has ended his life path and is now being absorbed in the Sunlight of God's Love.

Hail to Thee Darrell, I am so very grateful for all the love and care you have shared with me and that you have shared with so many whose hearts you have touched! May your guardian Angel protect you always. Go in Peace.

Love Eternally,
Deborah Bennett Lynch

THE SEA CAPTAIN

The Sea Captain was a glorious man. He sailed through the waters with the strength of his Father - ever onward and ever forward.

He made slight turns here and there, experiencing life as he went, but always heading back out to sea, where his heart resided. As we watched him sail, we admired the kinship between he and the waters, and we knew nothing could compare. We also knew it was his skill, you see, as the Captain of his ship, to steer through troubled waves, through drought, rain, sunshine and pain, and we learned what it meant to be a part of him, his family.

He saw roses in the Wintertime, snow-topped mountains in the Spring, and as his boat sailedtoward the horizon, he waved and smiled, and we knew he was free.

As the scent of cigars and coffee fill the air, smiles begin to appear, as we all truly know somewhere, he sails heaven's ocean with God as his Captain helping him steer.

1 John 5:14-15 and this is the confidence which we have before him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

Psalm 121; God is our keeper. I will lift up mine eyes to the mountains; from whence cometh my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.
