Beverly was born on July 26, 1917 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Lester L. Carey and Madeline Donovan Carey Dean. She received an Associates Degree from Peace College in Raleigh, NC and later an R.N. degree from the Columbia Hospital in Columbia, SC. She met and married Dr. Hugh Wells in 1946 while he was doing his internship at the Columbia Hospital. After moving to Seneca, SC, she worked as an R.N. at her husband’s medical practice prior to the birth of their first child. She was the loving mother of three children who remember her as kind, generous, and gentle. She was deeply supportive of and involved in her husband’s professional life and her children’s school and extracurricular activities. She was also an active and dedicated member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and the Lydia Bible Class. She and her husband were very involved with the University of South Carolina and were loyal Gamecock fans.
Arrangements are being handled by Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home in Seneca. A graveside service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 29th at Oconee Memorial Park also in Seneca, SC. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to express their gratitude to many special caregivers at Atria Assisted Living, Right at Home Sitter Agency, Harmony Square at the Crossings of Columbia, and Lighthouse Hospice, and to her physician, Dr. Jeff Hook.
