He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged at the rank of airmen first class in 1954. He was married to Darlene Smith on June 28, 1952, and they settled in Klamath Falls, where he lived most of the rest of his life. He graduated with an associate's degree in structural design from what was then Oregon Technical Institute in 1959 after working for the railroad out of high school. Homer worked for 42 years for Weyerhaeuser Company in various capacities and retired in 1992.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years before moving to Sheridan, Warrenton, Seaside and Puyallup, Wash., where he died on June 9, 2018, at the age of 87.
Homer led the honor guard of the Knights of Columbus, was president of the SHA Parents & Patrons, was a lector and took the Eucharist to the homebound. He was a youth baseball coach for both Little League and Babe Ruth and was respected by players and coaches.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Darlene, in 1995. He is survived by his children, Ron (Tiffany), Randy (Rhonda) and Teresa (Tom, died 2015) and his grandchildren, Wyatt, Hannah, Piper, Jamie, Sam, Mike (died 2002), Jessica, Tyler.
He was known as an avid Beaver fan. His funeral will be held in Klamath Falls later to be announced.
