June M. Lumbert, age 44, 2920 Cagey Road, Bellingham died in Bellingham on March 13, 1991 as a result of an auto accident. She was born in Bellingham on June 3, 1946 and was a lifetime resident of the Lummi Reservation.
She was a lifetime member of St. Joachim's Catholic church and a member of the American Legion Post #33 Women's Auxiliary. She was a personnel technician for the Lummi Indian Business Council and was very involved in the Education Commission, The Drug and Alcohol committee, Parents Education Committee, the Johnson O'Malley (J.O.M.) Parents Advisory Board, and several classes at the Northwest Indian College.
She enjoyed knitting and cedar basket weaving.
Mrs. Lumbert was the eldest in the family of Earl and Theresa Thomas of Lummi. Surviving her besides her parents are children Michael Peters of Sedro-Woolley, Carol Peters, Richard Peters both of Lummi, Brian Peters of Port Alberni, BC, and Brandon Lumbert of Lummi; grandchildren Shayna and Carolyn Peters of Lummi; brothers and sisters Theresa Mike and husband Dean; Bernie Thomas and wife Pam; Lorraine Williams and husband Richard; Andrea Johnson and husband Verne; Irene Thomas and Willard Hillaire; Belle Leathers and Larry Priest; Amy Thomas and Brad James; Earl Thomas, Jr., all of Lummi and Emily Willard and husband Albert of Seattle.
Prayer Services will be held Sunday, March 17, 6 pm at the Lummi Neighborhood Facility and Funeral Mass will be offered by Fr. Brian McGovern, Monday, March 18, 10 am at the Lummi Neighborhood Facility. Burial will follow at Lummi Reservation Cemetery.
