Charles Rothrock was the second of six known children of Joseph Rothrock (1785-1868) and Sarah Spach Rothrock (1795-1866), who married 18 Jan 1827 at Friedberg, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Joseph was a widower who had six children by his first wife, Magdalena Knauss Rothrock (1785-1826), whom he married 15 Oct 1810 at Friedberg, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina.
Charles married first to Caroline Lydia (went by Lydia) Frey (1831-1875) on 20 Sep 1853 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. Charles and Lydia were the parents of six known children, namely:
1. Sarah R. Rothrock Rominger (1855-1924)
2. George Augusta Frye (1857-1950)
3. Edwin Alexander Rothrock (1860-1925)
4. Lewis Francis Rothrock (1862-1902)
5. John Henry Rothrock (1869-1928)
6. Samuel Joseph Rothrock (1871-1949)
After Lydia died, Charles remarried to Rebecca Grubb (Grubbs?) (1841-1913) on 02 Dec 1884 at Winston, Forsyth County, North Carolina. Charles and Rebecca had no known children.
